Florin Lupu (Oct 1, 1978-Mar 17, 2002) was a co-founder of the Renaissance (Renasterea) initiative and Executive Director of the Foundation for Development through Economic Education and Partnership (DEEP), which he established after serving as national Executive Director of the Pro Democracy Association (Romania’s largest civil society development organization).
A visionary and force behind one of Romania's most dynamic community-based development innovation incubators, Florin traveled extensively throughout Western and Eastern Europe and even led a training mission in the U.S. in November 2001.
Three months later, by which time Renaissance already counted more than 300 volunteers worldwide in its programs, Florin and another teammate were tragically killed in an automobile accident near Jiu Valley in March, 2002. His death was mourned by many, but his life and vision continue to inspire numerous young people throughout Southeast Europe. Renaissance continued, redesigned its strategy to focus on efforts to strengthen local government and community initiatives, and facilitated the development of a number of community initiatives.
