Heading south on route 66 (DN 66) in Petrosani, take a left on Closca Street and continue straight on Zorilor and gen. V. Milea. The telescaun is situated approximately 5 km up this road. The lift is open 9.00-4.00 year round; cost is approximately $0.55 per ride. Take as many runs as you want. You don't pay a flat fee to ski all day. Simply pay the man your half-dollar for every ride you want to take. Take twenty runs if you can for the low low price of $11.00.
The mountain has several runs to offer. It also boasts numerous cozy lodging options, right on the mountain, and most for under $5 per night.
Straja
From Route 66A (the main Jiu Valley highway) in the town of Lupeni (approx. 13 km west of Petrosani), turn south (look for sign on highway) and head toward Straja mountain until you get to the telescaun. The lift is open from 9.00-4.00, although it shuts down in the middle of the day during non-winter months. Lift rides cost approximately $0.70 per ride.
Once again, there is no flat fee to ski all day. Simply pay each time you want to ride the lift. Take twenty runs for the low price of $14.00. Equipment rental available.
